Chicago Bears quarterback Caleb Williams revealed that head coach Ben Johnson is tough with the team.

Ahead of their last preseason game against the Tennessee Titans on Saturday, Williams was asked during his media availability about how Johnson’s approach is in training camp.

Johnson has been in the headlines this offseason for his tough-love approach with his players and sharp responses to media questions.

And the former USC star shared that it’s still the same treatment from Johnson, but it has died down a bit in the past weeks.

“I would say he’s still extremely sharp and very tough,” Williams said. “And I think he may have less moments where he’s consistently more angry, but when he does, he’s really honest and things like that. It just shows how much he cares for us.”

Williams and Johnson head into their second year with Chicago after a successful 2025 season, in which they topped the NFC North with an 11-6 record and reached the playoffs for the first time since 2021.

During the same interview, Williams also discussed how Johnson has been honest with them and keeps the team’s emotions in check.

“We got a bunch of guys that are coming back that know the offense and know what it looks like,” Williams continued. “And I think Ben’s allowing us to be able to, like today, I got angry on the field, Ben’s like, ‘Calm down.’

This gives them a sense of accountability, which he believes is the main ingredient for success, and Williams likes this approach from Johnson.

“And I think he’s allowing us players to be able to step up, and I think I said this last year or the year before, maybe earlier this year, is that players, you win championships when you’re a player-led team,” said the Bears QB.

Williams and Co. will open their season with an away game against the Carolina Panthers on Sept. 13 at Bank of America Stadium.

They hope to eclipse their record last season and potentially make a run for the Super Bowl.
