‘He Was on Fire’: Ben Johnson singles out 1 Bears player after win vs. Titans

Ben Johnson and the Chicago Bears wrapped up their preseason slate on Saturday. They faced the Tennessee Titans at Nissan Stadium and won 24-15, finishing with a 2-1 record. Several players proved their worth, but he singled out Tyson Bagent, who played an instrumental role in the victory.

The backup quarterback completed 16-of-17 passes for 208 yards, two touchdowns and zero interceptions. He connected on his first seven throws, including the team’s first of four fourth downs. Bagent set the tone for Chicago and left a good impression on Johnson and his staff. While he’s still expected to serve as the QB2 in the regular season, he showed what he is capable of.

Ben Johnson praises Tyson Bagent for performance in Bears-Titans game

During his postgame availability, Johnson spoke highly of Bagent. He highlighted how the offense showed out when the quarterback found his groove. The head coach also praised the defense for its physicality.

“I thought they brought it tonight,” Johnson said. “Defense did a great job playing physical brand that we pride ourselves on and to see a few of those three and outs there in the second half, that was great to see. And then offensively, when Tyson starts the game like that, I think he had one incompletion, 16 to 17. He was on fire. And so you felt like our offense was really rolling when that happened.”

The Bears now have their sights set on the regular-season opener versus the Carolina Panthers on Sept. 13. They will enter a crucial campaign, aiming to continue silencing their critics. Chicago won the NFC North last year with an 11-6 record and reached the Divisional Round. The team only lost in overtime to the Los Angeles Rams. Johnson and Co. are hungrier for more success and plan to surpass their achievements in 2025.
