Lexie Brown’s list has reignited the debate over where Caitlin Clark belongs among the WNBA’s best guards today. The Indiana Fever star was included in Brown’s top five, but the selections around her sparked immediate discussion across social media.

Brown, a former WNBA champion and current player, was asked to name her five best guards during a recent television appearance. Her list included Clark and rising star Olivia Miles, but the complete ranking quickly became the center of attention. Fans debated not only the players who made the cut, but also the established guards who were left outside Brown’s top tier.

Clark’s inclusion was particularly notable given the differing opinions surrounding her standing among the league’s elite guards. The Fever standout has remained one of the WNBA’s most productive offensive players, combining high-volume scoring with elite playmaking. Her ability to stretch defenses with deep shooting while creating opportunities for teammates has made her one of the most difficult backcourt matchups in basketball.

The debate over her ranking has become even more complicated because evaluations of Clark have varied widely this season. WNBA general managers ranked her second among point guards in their preseason survey, while the player vote for the All-Star Game placed her much lower among guards. Fans and media voters, meanwhile, rated her considerably higher, illustrating the unusual gap in perception surrounding one of the league’s biggest stars.

Clark was recently included in Brown’s list of top WNBA guards today. This can be seen in a video shared by NBA TV on X.

Brown’s list also arrived during a season filled with exceptional guard play throughout the league. Paige Bueckers, Olivia Miles, Kelsey Mitchell, Rhyne Howard, Sabrina Ionescu, Chelsea Gray and several others have strengthened the argument that the position may be deeper than ever. That competition makes any top-five list subjective, especially when players are evaluated through different standards such as scoring, playmaking, efficiency, defense and overall impact.

Clark’s place on Brown’s list may not end the argument, but it reinforces her standing in the conversation. With her scoring and playmaking continuing to shape games for Indiana, the more difficult question may no longer be whether she belongs among the WNBA’s top guards, but exactly where she should rank among them.
