The Chicago Bears have now turned their focus to Week 1’s matchup against the Carolina Panthers. But to be at their best, the franchise knows they need to be healthier as a roster.

On Tuesday, head coach Ben Johnson revealed numerous crucial injury updates. Cornerbacks Jaylon Johnson and Tyrique Stevenson are day-to-day while running back Kyle Monangai is week-to-week. Wide receiver Luther Burden is expected to practice on Tuesday, via Zack Pearson of Bear Report.

Johnson picked up an arm injury in a recent practice while Stevenson went down with a leg ailment. The fact both are considered day-to-day is a good sign for their Week 1 availability.

Monangai being week-to-week is a bit more concerning after hyperextending his knee. He still has just under two weeks to be ready for Week 1, but the running back is running out of time to fully ramp up.

The Bears will at least be optimistic to see Burden on the field. His groin injury threw a potential wrench in Chicago’s passing plans. But back on practice Tuesday, he seems well on his way to being ready for Week 1.

Injuries have become a common trend throughout Chicago’s offseason. Nearly every training camp practice, it seems like someone is leaving with a trainer. Safety Coby Bryant got the worst of it, as he may miss the entire 2026 season after undergoing knee surgery.

That’s what it’s crucial for the four players above to have a clean bill of health come Week 1. Johnson and Stevenson are Chicago’s starting outside cornerbacks. While there may be questions in the pass rush, they’re expected to lead the secondary.

The same goes for Burden in the pass game, he and Rome Odunze are the Bears’ top two options. With DJ Moore no longer in the Windy City, Burden’s responsibilities will increase. Monangai has already formed a potent one-two punch with D’Andre Swift. If healthy, he’ll again be a key part of the run game.

But for any of the four to make a real impact, they need to be on the gridiron. The Bears will hope their returns come sooner rather than later.
