The WNBA MVP race continues to heat up, with Caitlin Clark among the favorites to win it this year. A’ja Wilson, Olivia Miles and Clark’s Indiana Fever teammate, Kelsey Mitchell, have also made strong cases for the honor. However, Dave Portnoy left no doubt why he believes the three-time All-Star guard is the most deserving.

Clark is averaging the third-most points in the league with 22.5, along with a league-leading 8.4 assists per game. She has been one of the biggest reasons why Indiana is now 26-14 for the season after starting 5-5.

The 24-year-old will suit up for Team USA in the FIBA World Cup in Berlin. It will be held from Sept. 4 to 13, and she will play alongside some of the WNBA’s biggest stars.

Dave Portnoy cites Caitlin Clark’s stats for her MVP case

Portnoy posted a video on X on Monday. The Barstool Sports founder cited Clark’s hot streak and made it clear that she is the MVP of the season.

“Caitlin Clark is the MVP, and I’m not just saying because I’m a Caitlin Clark fan,” Portnoy said. “The numbers and what she has been doing for the last month, the last game, 34 points, 12 assists. Game before that, 37 points, 10 assists. There’s crazy stats. Nobody in the history of the league has scored 30 and had double-digit assists. She’s 20 in her last 10 games, 34, 37, 21, 24, 26, 29, 22. She’s (a) double-double machine.

“The league has never seen anything like it. You’ve had people try to say she’s overrated. She can’t shoot her. Three ball is coming around. She is dominating the sport just like we thought she would, and she is.”

Clark and Indiana currently tie for fourth in the standings with the Atlanta Dream at 26-14. They have four games left and are battling with the Las Vegas Aces for a top-three seed. The Fever will play their next game on Sept. 18 against the Toronto Tempo.
