Bears’ Caleb Williams reveals biggest factor in contract extension talks

Chicago Bears quarterback Caleb Williams isn’t set to become a free agent until 2029, assuming the franchise picks up his fifth-year option. Still, if he continues on his trajectory, the Bears will be talking contract extension with him sooner rather than later.

If/when that deal comes, Williams isn’t necessarily trying to break the bank. Ultimately, the quarterback is solely focused on winning. If he and the franchise builds off their sudden momentum, his extension will fall into place, via Jason Lieser of the Chicago Sun-Times.

“Money’s not a motivating factor for me in that sense,” Williams said. “If I wanted to be done today, I’d be fine. If I wanted to be done and go somewhere and disappear for a long time and never come back and y’all would never see me again, I’d be OK. That’s not my motivation.”

“Winning, winning, winning handles everything,” he continued. “So that’s where my mind’s at.”

When Williams first came to Chicago, a bombshell report questioned his eagerness to play for the Bears. Now, those days are long gone. Williams has become infatuated with the franchise and wants too be their QB1 for the remainder of his career.

“I obviously want to be here forever,” Williams said. “That’s a goal of mine: to be at one place until I’m done, until I decide that it’s over for me and I want to go home and ride off into the sun…I’ll be here.”

If the Bears keep winning, the quarterback’s desires will only become more realistic. He got closer to his No. 1 pick ceiling under head coach Ben Johnson, leading Chicago to an NFC North title. With the franchise clearly building around him, all the pieces are in place for Williams to succeed.

For now, the Bears are solely focused on proving 2025 wasn’t a fluke. Along the way, Williams will attempt to show exactly why he should be Chicago’s QB1 for the foreseeable future.
