Fever rookie Raven Johnson comments on WNBA fans during road games

Playing on the road is big challenge for every WNBA team. However, the same can’t be said about Raven Johnson and the Indiana Fever. Their fans flock arenas around the country, making them feel like they’re always in front of their home supporters.

The Fever started the season slow with a 5-5 record. However, they are now 26-14 and currently fifth the standings. The turnaround wouldn’t have been possible without their fans cheering them on regardless of which arena they play at. Johnson has seen firsthand how warm the receptions have been for her and the team.

Johnson entered the league as the No. 10 overall pick this year. She enjoyed a stellar collegiate career with the South Carolina Gamecocks, winning two national championships. The guard also earned SEC Defensive Player of the Year honors in her final season with the program. While she is receiving heavy playing time in her rookie campaign, she is a regular part of the rotation. Johnson is averaging 3.1 points, 1.7 rebounds and 1.2 assists in 10.3 minutes.

Raven Johnson opens up on Fever fans’ support in road games

Johnson was asked which arena is the hardest to play at. However, she gave an honest admission about not feeling like playing any road games.

“Honestly, every arena we go to is our fans,” Johnson said. “They’re packing out the arena for us.”

She and her teammates will return to action after the WNBA’s FIBA World Cup break. The Toronto Tempo will play against them on Sept. 18 at Coca-Cola Coliseum. A two-game homestand follows before wrapping up the regular season versus the Minnesota Lynx on Sept. 24. Indiana is battling for a top-three seed with the Las Vegas Aces and Atlanta Dream. Every win is crucial as the team is one game behind for third place and the Dream own the tiebreaker over them.
