Bears’ Caleb Williams MVP noise growing louder before Week 1

Chicago Bears quarterback Caleb Williams is entering a pivotal season in his second year working under head coach Ben Johnson. But if everything goes to plan, he would end the season considered amongst the best quarterbacks in the league.

The Bears have built their offense around Williams, putting all the pieces in place necessary for him to succeed. Now, Dan Parr of NFL.com thinks that’ll lead to the quarterback winning MVP.

“I’m throwing caution to the wind and declaring that 2026 is Caleb Williams’ time,” Parr wrote. “The Iceman makes a big leap to league MVP in his second season with Ben Johnson, becoming the first 4,000-yard passer in franchise history and leading the Bears to the top of the league’s most competitive division for the second year in a row.”

Matthew Stafford of the Los Angeles Rams won MVP in 2025 after leading the league with 4,707 yards and 46 passing touchdowns. It would take quite the effort from Williams to replicate those numbers.

But the quarterback is entering 2026 on a wave on momentum. If he can put the pieces together, perhaps he goes on an unforgettable run.

Johnson is considered one of the best play callers in the NFL. The Bears have numerous top flight pass catchers in Rome Odunze, Luther Burden, Colston Loveland and more. And while center Drew Dalman may have retired, Chicago has invested heavily in their offensive line.

All of this for their former No. 1 overall pick. The Bears believe he is the quarterback that will lead the franchise to new heights. Now, it’s just up to Williams to follow through on that potential.

In his first year under Johnson, Williams threw for a franchise-high 3,942 yards, 27 touchdowns and seven interceptions. He did so while completing just 58.1 percent of his passes. With more experience under Johnson and increased consistency, it’s not hard to see why many are expecting the quarterback to take a step forward.

Actually competing for an MVP title would put Williams on a completely different tier of quarterback. But that’s been the plan ever since he was drafted.
