Fever star Kelsey Mitchell reveals mindset heading into WNBA playoffs

Kelsey Mitchell and the Indiana Fever have clinched a playoff spot. However, the final seedings will be determined in the last week of the regular season. She shared her mindset ahead of the WNBA playoffs.

Mitchell is amid a historic season. The veteran guard set new league marks in consecutive regular-season games with 20-plus points and most consecutive in a single campaign. She is averaging a career-high 25.0 points, along with 1.7 rebounds and 2.8 assists through 40 games.

The Fever are 26-14 for the season and currently fifth in the standings. They have four games left on their schedule starting on Friday against the Toronto Tempo at Coca-Cola Coliseum.

Mitchell addressed the media on Tuesday. A reporter asked her what she feels at this stage of the season and her mindset knowing that they’re headed to the playoffs.

“It’s humbling,” Mitchell said. “I’m grateful. I’m happy our group stayed down this season… It’s a gut check. And I think you just gotta be mindful about what you can do and give it to God, man. I can’t really dwell on what could happen, all I can do is keep showing up.”

Indiana shares the same record as the Atlanta Dream; however, it doesn’t own the tiebreaker. Both teams are trailing the Las Vegas Aces by one full game.

Mitchell and the Fever will have a two-game homestand following the Tempo game. They will host the Washington Mystics and Minnesota Lynx at Gainbridge Fieldhouse. Their final game is on Sept. 24 at Target Center versus the Lynx. Indiana can finish as high as No. 2 or as low as No. 8. Every win is crucial as it will place the team in a better position for the playoffs. It is aiming to a deeper run this year after exiting in the second round in 2025.
