Chicago Bears, Darnell Wright

Chicago Bears fans began panicking when right tackle Darnell Wright missed practice on Wednesday with a worrying knee injury. However, they are now breathing a sigh of relief after Thursday’s update.

Wright returned to practice on a limited basis, the team announced. He was joined by a litany of Bears players looking to be cleared prior to Week 2.

With a limited tag, it’s fair to wonder how much Wright was able to do. But at least returning to practice puts him on the right track. Barring any setbacks with his knee injury, the right tackle will be looking to play against the Vikings.

In Week 1, the Bears ran f0r a record-breaking 291 yards and six touchdowns. Wright’s work at right tackle played a significant role in that success. Chicago will continue relying on Wright and the offensive line as a whole to move the offense forward.

But right tackle needs to be on the field to make an impact of course. He was on Thursday at least.

For all the fireworks head coach Ben Johnson’s offense produces, success is predicated in the trenches. It’s why the Bears put such an emphasis on building out their offensive line upon Johnson’s arrival. But for all the changes, Wright has remained a constant at right tackle.

He has started at least 16 games all three of his seasons in Chicago. That is a testament to both how quickly he became an asset for the Bears and also how healthy he has been. Even when injured, Wright has been known to still play.

This time around, the Bears will be cautious. The last thing they want is for Wright to suffer a setback and be forced to miss time. For now though, it doesn’t look like the right tackle suffered a long-term injury. Still, Bears fans will be checking the injury update leading into Week 2.
