Sophie Cunningham has always been vocal and not shy about speaking her mind. The Indiana Fever star had a lot to say recently about Washington Mystics guard Sonia Citron.

She is fresh off winning the gold medal with Team USA at the FIBA World Cup. Citron replaced Kelsey Plum in the lineup just days before the tournament started in Berlin. However, she justified USA Basketball’s selection of her by showcasing her elite skill set, particularly her court vision and shooting.

Meanwhile, Cunningham and the Fever are set to return to action on Friday. They will face the Toronto Tempo on the road before taking on Citron and the Mystics two days later at Gainbridge Fieldhouse.

Indiana Fever: Sophie Cunningham praises Sonia Citron’s game

Cunningham shared that she and Indiana watched film of Citron and Washington. Her podcast co-host, Drew Hanlen, asked her for her thoughts about the two-time All-Star. The 30-year-old spoke highly of Citron’s game, emphasizing her strengths on and off the court.

“The first one I put (on her list) was Sonia because she is an absolute bada** truly,” Cunningham said. “I think at Notre Dame she was like a quiet assassin but she helped them win. Now, this is kind of her team along with a couple (of) others, and she freaking hard to guard, man. She uses her body well… I truly love the way she plays (and) I love her personality, the way she approaches the game, kind of who she is off the court. I have nothing but great things to say about her.”

Indiana is fifth in the standings with a 26-14 record. While the team has secured a playoff berth, its seeding has not yet been finalized. Cunningham and Co. could finish as high as No. 2 or as low as No. 8.

Citron and the Mystics, on the other hand, are sitting on seventh place at 24-16 with also four games left.. They have the same win-loss slate as the New York Liberty but don’t own the tiebreaker.
