The Chicago Bears are riding into Week 2 with plenty of momentum after scoring 59 in their season opener. But to Ben Johnson, the Bears haven’t accomplished anything yet.
The head coach vehemently shut down the notion that Chicago would rest on their laurels after the 59-point outburst. He knows the team still has plenty of work to do on the defensive side. Even offensively things weren’t perfect.
In Week 2, the Bears will face off in a pivotal NFC North matchup against the Minnesota Vikings. With both teams entering the battle at 1-0, each side wants division supremacy. Furthermore, Johnson’s offensive mind will do battle with highly respected defensive coordinator Brian Flores.
Every week, the Bears will have to prove themselves. There is no changing the past, just altering the future.

While Johnson calls the plays, offensive coordinator Press Taylor works closely with the head coach to determine Chicago’s offensive gameplan. The two share ideals on how the Bears should move the ball forward. Furthermore, Taylor is echoing Johnson’s message about going into the Vikings clash with a clean slate, via Natalie Spala of NBC Chicago.
“Our guys understand no week carries over, and they’re not going to let us bring any of those points from last week to this game,” Taylor said.
“Early on, couldn’t be happier with the intent they’ve come to work with this week,” he contued. “It’s easy to say we scored 59. The guys understand what’s ahead of us and in the NFL how fine that line is.”
If the Bears were to come out and lay a dud, it’d be too easy for the media to call their Week 1 performance a fluke. Chicago would have even more questions entering Week 3. But if their offense stays firing on all cylinders, it would show how serious the Bears are about competing in 2026.
