Despite the 9-3 loss, perhaps the most worrying slight from the Chicago Bears’ Week 2 matchup against the Minnesota Vikings was seeing quarterback Caleb Williams carted off the field. His status moving forward is now up in the air.

The Bears have officially ruled that Williams is dealing with a hamstring injury. That’ll relieve any knee or Achilles concerns. Still, the quarterback could be facing a multi-week absence. Chicago will know more once more tests are gone through.

Williams has quickly become the center piece of the Bears’ franchise. They have built their entire offense around him. Chicago’s explosion could be muted with their ring leader on the sideline.

But Williams still knows he is an integral part of the team. He wanted to be with the Bears despite their loss and his worrying injury.

After the loss, Williams was seen amongst his teammates in the locker room. Perhaps most notably, he wasn’t using any crutches, via Adam Jahns of CHGO.

“Bears QB Caleb Williams came through the locker room while the media was present,” Jahns said. “He was walking under his own power, no crutches or anything, maybe a slight limp.”

The Bears medical staff certainly has Williams on some form of medical plan. There may also sill be some adrenaline in his veins. He’ll soon have to face a lengthy rehab process. But Williams’ teammates know he isn’t giving up on the team.

Chicago will need to find a way to rally without their starting quarterback. In turn, Williams seems likely to stay connected with his team as much as possible even if he isn’t playing. He is still a captain on this team.

Head coach Ben Johnson has been trying to build a new culture in Chicago. That foundation will now be tested amongst Williams’ absence. How strong the Bears really are without their star QB will soon be revealed.
