The Chicago Bears suffered a frustrating 9-3 loss to the Minnesota Vikings in Week 2. But perhaps more devastating is the seemingly serious injury quarterback Caleb Williams suffered.

Williams went down without being touched while trying to run for a touchdown. He was ultimately removed from the game and carted off the field. The Bears then ruled him out for the remainder of the contest with a hamstring injury.

He’ll now undergo more tests so Chicago knows exactly where Williams stands. Until a definitive timeline is released, Bears fans will be holding their breath.

As will head coach Ben Johnson. He will remain confident in his play calling ability and the work of backup Tyson Bagent. But at the same time, he knows Williams brings a completely different dynamic to the gridiron.

The fact Williams’ injury is to his hamstring rather than his knee or Achilles could be deemed a good sign. But until the Bears have more information on his injury, Chicago won’t speculate on how much time he may miss. Johnson is staying patient as well. He won’t panic about a long-term absence before he even knows if it’s in the cards, via the head coach’s postgame press conference.

“We’ll know more tomorrow,” Johnson said of Williams’ injury. “I just saw him a second ago, he’s in good spirits. He’s a team player.”

Seeing his quarterback in good spirits will keep his head coach optimistic. Williams was also seen pumping his fist to the fans before leaving the field. Ultimately, both players are eager for when their offensive plans can unfold once more.

But the first order of business is getting Williams back on the field. In the immediate aftermath of their Week 2 loss, the head coach and franchise at-large aren’t sure exactly how long that’ll be.
