Bears WR Luther Burden III’s painful reaction to Caleb Williams injury

The Chicago Bears’ Week 2 game against the Minnesota Vikings became a nightmare. They recorded an impressive season-opening 59-37 win over the Carolina Panthers and had a lot of momentum on their side. However, they lost 9-3 on Sunday. Not only did they fail to score a touchdown, but the visiting team shut them down in the last three quarters. Caleb Williams also sustained a hamstring injury, which Luther Burden III reacted painfully to during a postgame interview. It happened with 7:27 remaining in the fourth period.

Chicago entered the matchup with a lot of hype. Its offense fired on all cylinders in Week 1, and many believed the team was unstoppable. Bears fans looked forward to a successful first game of the season at Soldier Field, but things went from bad to worse. Williams finished with 15-of-26 completions for 138 yards and zero touchdowns. He also took three sacks and intercepted once.

Burden was asked by reporters to share how he felt when Williams got hurt. The second-year wide receiver emphasized what the star quarterback means to the team and that he is hopeful he can return to action soon.

“It hurts, man,” Burden said. “I thought we had a touchdown… He’s the heart, soul, and engine of this team. Hopefully he’s OK and gets back out there.”

The extent of the 2022 Heisman Trophy winner’s injury remains unclear. Doctors will conduct a series of tests on Monday to determine it and find out what his timeline will be. The Bears will play their next two games at home in Weeks 3 and 4 against the Philadelphia Eagles and New York Jets. If Williams is sidelined, Tyson Bagent will continue to run the offense under center.
