Caitlin Clark had strong words for Fever teammate Kelsey Mitchell

Caitlin Clark and Kelsey Mitchell have been two of the biggest reasons for the Indiana Fever’s success this season. The star backcourt duo has broken several records and continue to perform admirably late in the campaign. Despite seeing their three-game winning streak snapped on Sunday, the 24-year-old had some strong words for her veteran teammate during her pregame availability.

Clark finished the matchup with the Washington Mystics with a game-high 25 points, two rebounds and five assists. However, she struggled from the field, converting just 6-of-20 attempts in the 93-77 loss. She took advantage of the defense sending her to the free-throw line, going 10-of-10. Mitchell, on the other hand, continued her 20-plus point scoring streak. She recorded 22 points, two assists and three three-pointers. It was her 26th straight such game, extending her already WNBA regular-season games record.

Makayla Timpson contributed 13 points on 4-of- shooting, along with seven rebounds. However, no other Indiana player scored in double digits, including Aliyah Boston, who registered just seven, with six rebounds and five assists.

Reporters asked Clark about the impact the 30-year-old has had on the team this year. The three-time All-Star highlighted emphasized how happy she is to see Mitchell perform at the highest level.

“It’s been fun to get a lot of these wins for her,” Clark said. “She really does deserve it. I think this is her ninth year. So it’s pretty incredible that she’s playing her best basketball right now. It seems like every game she just continues to get better. So we’ve always had a tremendous relationship. And like I said, she’s a better human than she is basketball player, which is hard to believe because she’s a pretty good basketball player. But it makes you just even happier when you see somebody that you care about and love off the court have so much success on the court as well.”

Indiana has two games remaining on its schedule, both against the league-leading Minnesota Lynx. Clark, Mitchell and Co. still have a fighting chance to secure the No. 3 seed but they don’t own their destiny anymore. The Atlanta Dream are 28-14 and currently fourth in the standings, while the Las Vegas Aces are third with a 29-13 record.
