Indiana Fever announce Caitlin Clark update after loss to Mystics

Sunday’s game against the Washington Mystics didn’t go according to plan for Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever. They saw their three-game winning streak snapped and lost ground in the race for a top-three seed. If there’s any consolation, the superstar guard once again put up impressive numbers.

Clark finished with 25 points built on 10-of-10 free throws, along with two rebounds, five assists and three three-pointers. However, she struggled from the field, shooting 6-of-20, and committed five turnovers in the 93-77 defeat. Kelsey Mitchell continued her 20-plus point scoring streak, recording 22 on 8-of-20 shooting, with two assists and three triples.

The Mystics were led by Kiki Iriafen’s 21 points and 14 rebounds, while Shakira Austin poured in 20 points, 10 rebounds and five assists. Sonia Citron and Georgia Amoore contributed 16 and 11 points, respectively. Washington has now won two straight and five of its last six games.

Fever posts Caitlin Clark update on social media

The Fever announced that Clark is the stat leader of the game. Her 25 points was a game-high, and the team also uploaded some of her highlights on X.

Indiana remains fifth in the standings with a 27-15 record. However, the team is now one full game behind the Atlanta Dream, and trailing the Las Vegas Aces by 1.5. Sunday’s loss was a huge blow to its chances of securing the No. 3 seed with only two games remaining. Clark and Co. will face the WNBA-leading Minnesota Lynx twice in a home-and-away set on Tuesday and Thursday.

Winning both matchups is crucial as it will give them at least a fighting chance of still ending in the top three. They are not favored to finish the regular season as the No. 3 seed, with the Aces having three games left, including two versus non-playoff teams. The Fever also don’t own the tiebreaker against the Dream.
