The Chicago Bears are collectively holding their breath over the injury status of quarterback Caleb Williams. While the initial tests have confirmed he isn’t dealing with a serious long-term injury, his status is still up in the air.
The Bears haven’t officially ruled Williams out of their Week 3 matchup against the Philadelphia Eagles. But Chicago is still going to be cautious with their quarterback, understanding how important he is to their success. Furthermore, hamstring injuries can linger, and the last thing the Bears want to do is risk a setback.
If Williams is forced to miss time, which still seems likely, backup Tyson Bagent would be thrust into the spotlight. He completed 5-of-9 passes for 54 yards, nearly leading the Bears to a last-second comeback.
Chicago would look much different under center with Bagent compared to Williams. But the backup turned potential starter isn’t flinching.

The Bears are facing the Eagles on Monday Night Football. Should Bagent start, the lights will only get brighter. But the quarterback trusts the team around him. Bagent knows the Bears are built to succeed, via Brad Biggs of the Chicago Tribune.
“I feel like I have a good team around me, good coaching staff, so I’m ready to roll,” Bagent said. “I don’t think anything will change as far as my week goes, other than practice reps going up. Just got to continue to stay focused, continue to stay sharp and prepare the best that we can going into each week.”
Bagent hasn’t started a game since 2023, prior to Williams’ arrival. He went 2-2 over his four opportunities, which is fairly impressive seeing as the quarterback is a former undrafted free agent from DII Shepherd University.
Even with Williams’ down, the Bears still have lofty expectations. If given the starting nod, he’ll be expected to produce at a high level against the Eagles. Bagent is up for the challenge.
