It was a week to forget for the Chicago Bears.
They lost their home opener to the Minnesota Vikings this Sunday and simultaneously lost QB Caleb Williams to a hamstring injury. The status of the injury is still up in the air, as reports say he could miss this week’s game against the Eagles.
Backup QB Tyson Bagent replaced Williams in the losing effort, as he came in and failed to lead the Bears to a victory in the fourth quarter. A tall task for Bagent, who hasn’t taken meaningful snaps since 2023.
Today, the Bears received even more bad news, as Bagent entered the concussion protocol. Case Keenum would be in line to start if both Williams and Bagent can’t go.

Keenum is entering his 15th year in the NFL and has been a journeyman for most of his career.
He hasn’t started a game since 2023 and will potentially have to face a tough Philadelphia Eagles defense on Monday night. Not an ideal situation for the Bears, who are looking to build some momentum on offense after a brutal showing in Week 2.

The Eagles are 2-0 and have a very strong defensive line, shutting down the run in their previous two matchups this season.
Defensively, Chicago will have their work cut out for them. The Vikings didn’t pose much of a threat with Carson Wentz at QB, but Jalen Hurts is a different story, as is Saquon Barkley.
The running game would be a major focus for the Bears if they have to rock with Keenum, as the veteran hasn’t played a game in three years. Bagent wasn’t a perfect backup, but many within the Bears organization believe he has the talent to get them a few wins if need be.
It’ll be interesting to see how Ben Johnson and company approach this situation, especially on such short notice. Look for them to add another QB to the room. The only other name in the organization is Miller Moss, an undrafted rookie on the Bears’ practice squad.
