Vikings defender’s ‘jolting’ reaction to Bears star Caleb Williams’ scary injury

When quarterback Caleb Williams went down, Chicago Bears fans inside Soldier Field went nearly silent. The only sound heard was Williams himself writhing on the ground in pain and frustration.
For the Bears, it was a moment that could’ve spelled true disaster. All of Chicago’s eggs are in Williams’ basket. For all the hype around backup Tyson Bagent, not many can do what Williams can.
Initially, it seemed as if the quarterback would be facing an extended absence, seeing as he suffered a non-contact injury. But further tests revealed “just” a hamstring strain, putting him week-to-week, but not out for the year. Bears fans are now breathing a sigh of relief.
Before that update, Chicago was going through a range of emotions. They weren’t alone, as even some of the Minnesota Vikings were shocked to see the quarterback go down.
Chicago Bears’ Caleb Williams injury creates a scare
One of the closest to Williams at the time of injury was safety Josh Metellus. He saw the quarterback’s eyes as he hit the gridiron. The Bears and Vikings may have been fighting for NFC North supremacy, but Metellus was taken aback by Williams’ injury, via Michael Silver of the Athletic.
“I probably had the best view — he was looking at me dead in the eye when he went down,” Metellus said. “It was jolting. You could tell it was something serious. It was really tough to see, and I’m praying for him.”
The safety will now be able to see that the quarterback didn’t suffer the long-term injury as feared. That does mean Metellus may have to face Williams in the Week 18 rematch. Ultimately, the safety would rather gameplan for the quarterback than know he physically can’t play.
Williams is everything to the Bears organization. He is already become a league icon as well. After suffering a non-contact injury, everyone was holding their breath.
