Chicago Bears rival head coach sees hot seat get scorching

The Chicago Bears couldn’t be happier with the hiring of head coach Ben Johnson. He immediately led the franchise to an NFC North title. Furthermore, Johnson has reinvigorated Chicago’s offense and brought a winning culture to the Bears organization.
Around the NFC North, that sentiment isn’t held by every franchise. Expectations are high for every head coach in the division, as all four teams are playoff contenders. But for Matt LaFleur and the Green Bay Packers, things haven run a bit sour.
The Packers have made the playoffs in six of the last seven seasons. However, they didn’t advance past the Divisional Round in that time. LaFleur may hold a career 77-44-1 record, but his seat has never been hotter in Green Bay.
LaFleur’s franchise is entering a Week 3 Thursday Night Football matchup against the Atlanta Falcons. With the whole world watching, he can’t afford a Packers flop.

Heading into Week 3, LaFleur has the highest odds of being fired by any head coach, at 64 percent on Kalshi, h/t Covers. He is followed by Nick Sirianni (Philadelphia Eagles) and Jim Harbaugh (Los Angeles Chargers) at 60 percent and Dan Quinn (Washington Commanders) and Aaron Glenn (New York Jets) at 50 percent.

In Week 1, the Packers fell 39-22 to the Minnesota Vikings in a game they at one point were leading 22-10. Green Bay did earn a win in Week 2. But they were taken to overtime by the New York Jets in a game they were heavily favored in.
Ultimately, LaFleur has kept the Packers on a playoff trajectory. But the Packers don’t want to be complacent. The franchise wants to shoot for new heights and actually compete for a Super Bowl title. Green Bay’s start to the 2026 has put those expectations under question.
The Bears are set to take on the Packers in Week 5 and Week 16. If the Packers keep stumbling, it’s fair to wonder if LaFleur will be around for at least the second matchup.
