Fever make big Sophie Cunningham announcement

Sophie Cunningham has been a big part of the Indiana Fever’s rotation this season. She continues to play significant minutes despite being moved to the bench earlier this year. The veteran guard provides the team with a lot of energy, hustle and timely baskets, helping achieve a 28-15 record. The team announced some big news about her on social media.

Cunningham produced 11 points built on three three-pointers, along with two rebounds and two assists on Tuesday. Her solid bench production helped Indiana return to its winning ways, defeating the Minnesota Lynx 96-77. It was a strong bounce back game for the team after losing 93-77 to the Washington Mystics two days earlier.

Catlin Clark led the charge with a game-high 27 points with seven rebounds and nine assists. Kelsey Mitchell and Aliyah Boston combined 37 points, 10 rebounds and seven assists.

Fever announce Sophie Cunningham’s career feat

Cunningham breached the 2,000-point career scoring mark. The 30-year-old now has 2,004, showing how valuable she has been since entering the WNBA as the No. 13 overall pick in the second round in 2013. She started her pro career with the Phoenix Mercury before landing with Indiana via a trade on Jan. 31, 2025.

The Missouri Tigers product is averaging 8.0 points, 2.3 rebounds and 1.2 steals through 41 games. However, what the stat sheets don’t show is her tenacity, particularly on defense, and ability to defend multiple positions.

Cunningham and Indiana will return to action on Thursday. They will once again face the Lynx when they visit Target Center. The team is already assured of a playoff berth but the final seedings have yet to be determined. The Fever are currently fifth in the standings and won’t have homecourt advantage in the first round if they finish outside of the top four.
