The Indiana Fever have big decisions to make in the offseason, especially with Kelsey Mitchell set to become an unrestricted free agent. General manager Amber Cox will lead the decision-making, and she revealed the franchise’s major priority.
Mitchell was a big reason why the Fever turned their season around after a 5-5 start. They finished the regular season with a 28-16 record and clinched the No. 6 seed. The team faced the defending champions, the Las Vegas Aces, in the first round and forced a Game 3. While Mitchell and Co. lost 94-83, they battled until the end.
The four-time All-Star finished with 23 points and two assists despite struggling from the field, shooting 7-of-23. Aliyah Boston supplied 19 points, 10 rebounds and three assists, while Caitlin Clark added 18 points on 6-of-18 attempts and four assists.

Mitchell is without a doubt one of Indiana’s most important players. She has formed a star backcourt duo with Clark and is part of the team’s three-headed monster with Boston. Cox shared to reporters that re-signing the 30-year-old is at the top of the front office’s list.
“Kelsey is obviously a major priority,” Cox said. “She has a lot of equity in this franchise and has put in a lot of time. I think you can see and feel and hear the love that this fan base has for her and that permeates throughout this entire organization. She’s meant so much to us and has obviously had arguably the best season in the history of our league in terms of being a scoring guard. The numbers she put up were just spectacular. And you hear night in and night out from players across this league: the hardest person to guard in this league is Kelsey Mitchell.”

Mitchell set a new WNBA mark for consecutive regular-season games with 20-plus points and the most in a single campaign. She has made it known that she plans to remain with the Fever. However, it will all boil down to contract negotiations and how much the organization will offer her.
