The Chicago Bears made a bold move before the trade deadline, sending the Tennessee Titans two first-round picks and a 2027 fourth-round pick for defensive tackle Jeffery Simmons.

The biggest question many around the league wondered was if the Bears gave up too much for the 29-year-old defensive tackle. Bears general manager Ryan Poles won’t have any complaints after seeing what Simmons brought to the defense on “Monday Night Football” in Week 8, just days after the trade was finalized on Wednesday.

Simmons finished the night tied with linebacker Devin Bush for the most tackles with six. He added one sack and two tackles for loss. However, his ability to draw the double-team was the big story of the Bears’ 34-17 win over the Seattle Seahawks on the road, as Montez Sweat and Bush recorded sacks and the defensive line was able to pressure Seahawks quarterback Sam Darnold without bringing the blitz.

During his postgame interview on the ESPN broadcast, Simmons said he was emotional during the game getting the opportunity to play for the Bears for the first time.

“Man, I’m so excited to be a Chicago Bear,” Simmons said. “It’s just all the emotions—pregame coming out in a new jersey for the first time… I was so happy to see that offense get rolling. And then, like I said, it’s our job to put the fire, no matter what happened.

“And then it’s our job to get the ball back to me as well. It’s so fun to see them scoring that many points, and then being able to just pin our ears back and help get off the field on third down.”

Simmons said he stayed at Halas Hall until 10 p.m. on his first day with the team to learn the playbook as he prepared to play on Monday night. He’s excited to team up with Sweat, his former college teammate at Mississippi State.

Sweat looked more like the player the Bears traded for before the 2023 deadline with Simmons on the field.

Simmons is ready to hunt for more wins with Chicago.

“The energy in that locker room, from head coach (Ben Johnson) down… the energy on that sideline. I’m so excited,” Simmons said. “Like I said, I think this is just the beginning, and you can see it from this team. We got stuff to clean up, but it’s a good football team. I’m happy to be a part of it.”
