Since head coach Ben Johnson’s arrival, the Chicago Bears have embraced a new winning mentality. After every victory, Johnson and the Bears shout their rallying cry.

Good, Better, Best has become a staple in Chicago’s locker room. The head coach ends all winning speeches with the message. In turn, the locker room becomes engulfed with emotion. The Bears have found a mantra that defines everything they want to be.

For those in their second year with Johnson, or Bears fans watching along, the chant has become second nature in their memory. But those who haven’t been introduced to Good, Better, Best may need some time to learn that message.

That includes new Bears defensive tackle Jeffery Simmons. He plans to help the Bears win plenty of games. Which means he’ll have to know the Chicago victory protocol.

Simmons earned a game ball from Johnson after his explosive debut. The defensive tackle put up six tackles, a sack and pass break up. But after giving his speech, Simmons then entered the unknown.

His Chicago teammates began screaming in unison a message that means everything to them. Soon, Simmons plans to have the Good, Better, Best script down pat, via CHGO.

“I’ve definitely been on YouTube trying to figure that out, make sure I’m good for next game,” Simmons said. “Especially if I’m in the camera like that, I’ll know the words.”

Simmons’ previous team hasn’t done much winning lately, as the Tennessee Titans are currently 1-7. Now, he’s in an environment where winning the Super Bowl is a realistic possibility. The defensive tackle is relishing that opportunity and willing to do whatever it takes to hear Good, Better, Best again.

“When you win, great things happen,” Simmons said. “When you’re a part of something like that after the game, that means you’re doing something good. To feel the energy, excitement from everybody in the locker room, great to be a part of it.”
