The Chicago Bears are gearing up for a fierce battle against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Pregame trash talk has now reached its peak.
One of the matchup’s biggest storylines will be about the battle between quarterback Caleb Williams and Tampa Bay’s defense. Williams’ skillset is unlike any other quarterbacks in the league. Through his first five games in 2026, Williams has completed 70.9 percent of his passes for 1,267 yards, six touchdowns and an interception.
But now, the quarterback is up for a truly daunting task by taking on the Buccaneers. Tampa Bay enters battle ranked third in total defense, allowing 285.9 yards per game. The Bucs’ 39.2 blitz rate is the fifth-highest in the NFL, via Sharp Football Analysis.
Williams will be on his toes throughout the Week 9 clash. One Buccaneers legend thinks that pressure will be too much for the quarterback to handle.

Seeing as he spent nine years with Tampa Bay, former defensive tackle Gerald McCoy is obviously going to take their side. But he isn’t being a simple homer about it. Instead, McCoy points to Buccaneers head coach Todd Bowles’ defensive scheme. The six-time Pro Bowl expects that unit to give Williams trouble all game, via Clay Harbor of the Chicago Sports Network.
“Todd Bowles defense has been very dominant this season,” McCoy said. “He’s going to send pressure at you. He’s going to test Caleb Williams and his pressure plan, let’s see how he can handle this pressure. Force him to beat him while he’s sending the blitz all game. I for sure believe the Bears are on upset alert. [Williams] is special. But under pressure, he’s real pedestrian.”

Gerald McCoy doesn’t think Caleb Williams can handle Todd Bowles Blitz package and doesn’t think the WRs can consistently get open vs the Bucs.

Williams has had no problem using taunts as fuel in the past. But the Buccaneers pass rush is a force that shouldn’t be taken lightly. How the quarterback is able to handle Tampa Bay’s pressure will likely determine the Week 9 winner.
