For much of the first three months of the season, there was not a position player in baseball colder at the plate that Chicago Cubs shortstop Dansby Swanson. Unfortunately, his run of poor offense also coincided with those of several other Chicago hitters. These struggles, combined with the numerous injuries suffered by the pitching staff, led to a real rough stretch of baseball.
But Swanson has suddenly found his swing. On Tuesday night, he belted two home runs in the Cubs’ 9-7 win over the San Diego Padres, and put himself into the top-five on an all-time list.

Swanson’s two home runs gave him 13 on the season. During the game last night, it was shown that his career total of home runs while playing shortstop is now the fifth-most in the entire history of the National League:

Of Sanswon’s 177 career home runs, 176 of them have come while he was playing shortstop.
The Cubs shortstop had a horrible month of May, hitting just .151/.233/.215 and a single home run. These struggles carried over into June for a while, but he has really turned it on at the plate as of late.
Over the last two weeks, Swanson is hitting .340/.373/.830 with six home runs and 21 RBI. For the month of June, he hit .247/.301/.541.
His improvement over the last couple of weeks has helped raise his season averages to .203/.296/.396 with 13 home runs and 49 RBI. If he continues to hit around .240-.250 for the rest of the season, he has the potential for a 30-home run and 100-RBI campaign, something he has never achieved.
Swanson’s career high for home runs in a season is 27 (2021 with Atlanta) and his career high in RBI is 96 (2022, also with Atlanta).
