Caitlin Clark brought an unprecedented level of attention to both the Indiana Fever and the WNBA when she joined the league as the No. 1 overall pick of the 2024 draft.
Over the past couple of years, Clark and the Fever have broken multiple viewership records, serving as a testament to just how much the 6-foot guard has elevated the league just by her mere presence.
At the same time, however, all the attention comes with a price. Clark’s every move is scrutinized by the media. At times, this has negatively affected the team, especially when false narratives are presented.

Clark had plenty to say when she addressed the media during Friday’s practice. She spoke openly about the incident involving Phoenix Mercury star Alyssa Thomas, expressing her true feelings about both the controversial foul and its aftermath.
Clark also pointed out that she feels the whole saga has been blown out of proportion. This led her to bring up a particular news headline she recently came across. The three-time All-Star called out the media for promoting narratives that just aren’t accurate.
“I remember seeing a headline,” she started. “I don’t remember who wrote this. And I try to stay away from social media as much as I can, but sometimes it’d be hard. I need to be aware of certain things.
“And the headline read something like, ‘This season has been anything but fun, and they’re just full of frustration for Clark and the Fever.’ And I’m like, no one ever asked me that. Nobody ever asked me. That’s wrong.”
Clark did not go into detail with the specific story she brought up. However, she made it clear that she does not appreciate such unsubstantiated storylines. The former Iowa Hawkeyes star prefers that the focus mainly remains on basketball.
“Discuss if I played bad,” she continued. “Discuss if I played good; discuss our play. At times, I understand there are other things that need to be talked about. Great, whatever. But let’s continue to move on.
“I think just focusing on the joy and amazing parts of this game. Like I said, I think it’s sometimes a disservice to not only our team but to everybody else. Let’s get back to a lot more smiling and positivity. I think our world could use a lot of that. And then moving on.”
