Chicago Bears have to make moves at linebacker following tough roster cuts

Following the NFL’s deadline to finalize 53-man rosters on Sunday, the Chicago Bears still have questions looming on the defensive side of the ball.

One of the more interesting situations is at linebacker. Currently the Bears only have four linebackers on their 53-man roster. This includes the three starters: TJ Edwards, Devin Bush, and D’Marco Jackson. Rookie KeShaun Elliot also made the cut.

Elliot was just activated off PUP and is being ramped up, it’s uncertain if he will be ready for Week 1.

The Bears still need to add some extra depth at linebacker with potentially one or two more players. Surprisingly, the team did cut fan favorite Jack Sanborn and former fourth round pick Ruben Hyppolite.

The Bears still need to add injured players to injured reserve, this includes safety Coby Bryant who will miss majority of the 2026 season.

If I had to predict, the Bears will likely bring Sanborn back as a depth piece after putting Bryant on IR. He could also be brought on the practice squad, instead.

However, the Bears must make a move at linebacker soon. I’d expect the team to look into the waiver wire right away as well going into the start of the 2026 season.
