Caitlin Clark sets new WNBA record after Fever lose Game 1 to Aces

Caitlin Clark delivered a solid performance in Game 1 of the Indiana Fever’s first-round series on Sunday. She finished with 15 points, three rebounds and 10 assists in the 102-85 loss to the Las Vegas Aces. Despite the defeat, the superstar guard was still able to set a new WNBA playoff record.

Clark struggled from the field, converting just 6-of-17 shots. Aliyah Boston spearheaded Indiana’s attack with 18 points, eight rebounds and four assists. Raven Johnson and Sophie Cunningham combined for 27 points off the bench. Kelsey Mitchell had a rare off night, recording 12 points on 4-of-16 shooting, along with three assists,

The Aces, on the other hand, were led by A’ja Wilson’s game-high 38 points on 15-of-19 shooting. She added 16 rebounds, two steals and four blocks. Jackie Young supplied 21 points and 10 assists, while Chelsea Gray added 14 points, five rebounds and eight assists.

Indiana Fever: Caitlin Clark sets new WNBA playoff mark

Clark’s 10 assists pushed her total to 27 through her first three playoff games. It’s the most dimes over the stretch in WNBA history, proving once again that her court vision and passing skills are elite.

The 24-year-old played in the postseason for the first time during her rookie year in 2024. However, the Fever were swept 2-0 by the Connecticut Sun. She then missed last year’s playoffs due to quad, ankle and groin injuries but has since bounced back strong this season. Clark was also named the AP Comeback Player of the Year on Sunday.

While individual records are a big achievement, she likely prefers team success over it. Indiana will host Las Vegas on Tuesday at Gainbridge Fieldhouse with its back against the wall. The team needs to win to stay alive and steal Game 3 at Michelob Ultra Arena to advance to the next round.
