Chicago Bears fans couldn’t take their eye off quarterback Case Keenum during his Week 3 performance. Neither could Caleb Williams.
In the 27-7 victory over the Philadelphia Eagles, Keenum completed 24-of-34 passes for 247 yards and two touchdowns. He added another score on the ground. With a box score like that, Williams certainly came away impressed.
But outside of just the stats, the quarterback got to see how Keenum led the offense. He was able to watch the veteran’s preparation. Williams gained more experience understanding what it takes to succeed at the highest level.
When the quarterback returns from his hamstring strain, he’s looking to play even better than he did the first two weeks. Keenum’s Week 3 start will give him plenty to think about.

Before each game, head coach Ben Johnson has a meeting with his quarterbacks. Heading into the Eagles matchup, Keenum led that meeting. Now in his 12th NFL season, he has been in plenty of those meetings.
Williams watched the veteran’s poise and command of the room. While he didn’t play in Week 3, Johnson is confident the quarterback didn’t leave empty-handed development wise, via the head coach’s Wednesday press conference.
“There’s a tremendous amount to be gained even though he didn’t participate last week,” Johnson said. “From taking a step back and seeing a big picture lens of how the entire team was preparing for the game. To specifically a different guy getting the keys to the car and seeing how he was going about his business.”
“That quarterback meeting is huge for us, and it was different with Case,” he continued. “He’s been in those for 15+ years. He’s been around a lot of really good players and has taken things from each and every guy he’s been around. I think that’s a good thing for Caleb to hear, he’ll grow from that.”
The Bears are paying close attention to Williams’ hamstring strain and hope he can return sooner rather than later. But even if he isn’t playing, Chicago still wants their quarterback to grow. Every day, every practice is an opportunity to improve.
If he isn’t starting, Williams will continue to learn from his teammates. Johnson is confident that’ll only make him a more well-rounded quarterback.
