Heading into the Chicago Bears’ Week 4 matchup against the New York Jets, there was plenty of controversy around who would play quarterback. But it was their run game that lead the franchise to a 23-12 victory.

The Bears turned 54 carries into 232 yards and two touchdowns. Four different players had run of at least 10 yards, including wide receiver Luther Burden and third stringer Roschon Johnson.

Leading the way for Chicago though was undoubtedly Kyle Monangai. With D’Andre Swift coughing up a fumble, head coach Ben Johnson decided to turn to the former seventh-rounder. Monangai didn’t disappoint, earning a career-high 30 carries, running for 146 yards and two scores.

The running back averaging nearly five yards per carry was crucial in consistently moving the chains. It also helped the Bears set a new franchise record.

Chicago earned 34 first downs in Week 4, setting a new franchise record, via Brad Biggs of the Chicago Tribune. Being on offense so much, it’s not surprising to see the Bears dominate time of possession 42:45 to 17:15.

Overall, the franchise outgained the Jets 492-157. While the focus may have been on the run game offensively, Tyson Bagent still completed 25-of-34 passes for 268 yards and a pick. Things weren’t the prettiest at times throughout the game. But to have sloppy play and still gain nearly 500 yards is a testament to Chicago’s offense.

The Bears are sure to lean on Monangai a bit more moving forward. Swift won’t be taken out of the gameplan by any means barring injury. But Monangai’s bruising rushing style has come up clutch for Chicago in crucial moments.

It also allowed the Bears to chew up clock in a game they were controlling. For all their firework potential, Chicago wants to gain a lead early rather than be chasing all game.

Up next for the Bears is their first 2026 matchup against the Green Bay Packers. Johnson, Monangai and company will be looking for another offensive onslaught.
