Chicago Blackhawks called ‘soft and pathetic’ after another embarrassing loss

Chicago Blackhawks

The Chicago Blackhawks have lost four in a row, and seven of their last eight games, to begin the 2026-27 season.

While most around the league didn’t expect the Blackhawks to be super competitive this season, they’ve looked worse than we thought. They rank at the bottom of the league in offense and also have one of the worst defenses in the NHL. Things have gone from bad to worse.

Head coach Jeff Blashill has faced heavy criticism from fans and the media. TNT analyst and former NHL player Paul Bissonnette called the Blackhawks ‘soft’ and ‘pathetic’ during the broadcast last night, and mentioned how ‘sick’ he is of watching this team play. He’s saying the quiet part out loud, and rightfully so.

‘Biz’ has been critical of the Hawks on multiple occasions. He’s called out their effort and lack of heart as well, which should fire the locker room up, but clearly hasn’t. During the first intermission, he continued bashing them.

“I don’t see a lot of identity. I see a soft team. They don’t check well; they don’t forecheck well. They don’t really do anything well.”

The Blackhawks are 4-11-1 and 8th in the Central Division. While they’ve had a few big injuries pop up, the team hasn’t looked good all year. Losing games is expected; losing them the way the Blackhawks are losing them is another problem entirely. Consistently being outplayed and outhustled.

Chicago Blackhawks head coach Jeff Blashill has been at the center of it all. He knows how rough this start has been, and his job may be in jeopardy if he can’t turn it around. The roster as a whole isn’t the most talented, so the blame shouldn’t be entirely on Blashill.

There were some faint ‘Fire Blashill’ chants at the United Center during their most recent home loss to the Avalanche. If this continues, those chants will turn from quiet to loud. Blashill responded to ‘Biz’s comments in the post-game presser, saying he disagreed with his brutal honesty about the team.

“I like Biz. I respect Biz, but I don’t agree with his opinion. I don’t think that we’re soft. I don’t think we’ve won enough games, so we’ve put ourselves in this position to be critized. And we’re going to have to accept that criticism. I don’t agree with his verbiage, and I don’t think he breaks down our tape on a regular basis.”

Blashill continued, stating that they are subject to this criticism due to the rough start. They’ll have a chance to get back in the win column tonight as they travel to Tampa to take on the Lightning.
