Chicago Bears quarterback Caleb Williams

The Chicago Bears have gone 3-0 since Caleb Williams’ return from injury. How far the franchise goes will largely depend on their quarterback.

Through those three games, Williams has completed nearly 74 percent of his passes for 860 yards four touchdowns and an interception. While the Bears went 2-1 with their backup quarterbacks in place, Chicago’s offense has now regained their defining difference maker.

Williams is well aware of how important he is to the offense and Bears overall. That’s why he was so emotional when he was carted off the field. The quarterback was meticulous in how he plotted his return to the gridiron.

While he may not have been in that specific situation before, Williams is always dialed in when he goes into battle. He used that mindset to lead his hamstring strain recovery process.

Williams was a Heisman winner during his time at USC, with head coach Lincoln Riley helping lead that growth. The pair had a mantra in all of their quarterback meetings. That ideal has now carried over into the NFL. When Williams is on the field, he wants to be decisive, via CHGO.

“That was the thought, when I get back, just being better overall. Play some ball better. Being more decisive,” Williams said. “That’s something that I harp on myself, I’ve harped on it since I was with coach Riley. One of the last things we’d say in our quarterback meetings with him is, ‘Be decisive, be decisive, be decisive.’”

“That’s kind of where it stems from,” he continued. “One of the biggest things for a QB is being decisive. When you’re hesitant, bad things happen. Decisiveness wins, is what I go by. Trying to get better at that each and every day.”

Williams’ accuracy increase has shown his ability to make quicker decisions. Furthermore, his ability to escape the pocket and find an open man downfield remains an irreplaceable trait. Head coach Ben Johnson has only further encouraged and enhanced the quarterback’s style of play.

The Bears need Williams to avoid any more serious injuries to keep their Super Bowl hopes alive. But when the quarterback is on the gridiron, his decisive play has helped Chicago become true contenders.
