“Before joining the Chicago Bears during the offseason, Coby Bryant was selected by the Seattle Seahawks at No. 109 in the fourth round of the 2022 NFL Draft. They chose him to add depth at safety and address the need at the position. His contributions last season helped the franchise win the Super Bowl.

Bryant spent his entire collegiate career with the Cincinnati Bearcats and earned first-team All-American honors in 2021. He was also named to the first-team All-AAC twice. The Ohio native was not one of the highest-ranked safeties entering the draft, but has since shown that he is capable of being a starter at the NFL level.

On March 11, he signed a three-year, $40 million deal with the Bears. Head coach Ben Johnson and the team lost three of their veteran safeties in free agency, and Bryant’s addition will fill the hole they left.

Chicago Bears: Coby Bryant shares experience under Ben Johnson

Bryant recently discussed what life has been like under Coach Johnson.

“I love it, honestly,” Bryant said, via Bears Wire. “He’s filled with fire. He’s an offensive guy too, as well, but we have a lot of similarities hence that’s why I’m here.”

The highly touted safety also spoke highly of the second-year head coach, highlighting his competitiveness.

“He’s a true competitor, every day he competes. He’s like us talking junk to him and vice versa, he talks junk to us too (on defense), I match his energy every day and vice versa. It’s been a special offseason.”

Bryant played 15 regular-season games last year. He amassed 66 combined tackles, including 39 solo efforts, along with four tackles for loss and four interceptions. The 27-year-old will likely exceed those totals as he takes on a more prominent role in 2026.

Coaches also expect him to mentor Chicago’s younger players, particularly Dillon Thieneman. The rookie safety is projected to play opposite Bryant. The Bears will continue their preparations for the 2026 season in late July.
