Indiana Fever head coach Stephanie White was not surprised by the latest announcement from the WNBA. This is after the league confirmed on Wednesday that starting next season, teams will play a total of 50 regular-season games as part of the WNBA’s expansion efforts. This means the Fever will play six more games than the 44 contests scheduled this season.
Speaking to the press ahead of Thursday’s game against the Atlanta Dream, White voiced her support for the league’s new mandate. The Fever coach expressed how this development will lead to more opportunities across the WNBA.
At the same time, however, the former Coach of the Year also has one significant concern.

White has clearly given a lot of thought to the WNBA’s evolution. She has been with the league since 1999, when she started off as a player for the Charlotte Sting. White knows that part of the league’s growth will require more games for all the teams.
At the same time, however, the veteran coach has raised one significant issue that she knows she will need to face.
“I think, obviously, concern from a coaching standpoint is always going to be cadence of games,” she said. “We are certainly getting more teams, but not as many teams as the NBA, and so cadence of games based on how we have to travel and those kinds of things from an injury standpoint and just really managing that.”
While this is a very valid concern, White knows that it’s all part of the process. She will cross the bridge once they get there next season.
