USA Network had to cut Sophie Cunningham broadcast over profanity

Indiana Fever star Sophie Cunningham made a big career move on Wednesday. This came in the form of her broadcasting debut for USA Network as the 6-foot-1 guard steps into an analyst role for the WNBA.

Cunningham joined the broadcast as a guest contributor for Wednesday’s double-header featyuring the New York Liberty taking on the Chicago Sky, followed by a matchup between the defending champions Las Vegas Aces and her former team, the Phoenix Mercury.

Cunningham provided some valuable basketball insight alongside USA Network’s Elle Duncan and Renee Montgomery. The Fever star also joined WNBA Hall of Famers Tamika Catchings and Chamique Holdsclaw as analysts.

The Fever took to social media ahead of the games to wish Cunningham good luck in her broadcasting debut. The 29-year-old caught wind of the post and raised her biggest concern in the comments section.

“Please don’t cuss please don’t cuss please don’t cuss,” wrote Cunningham.

She couldn’t help it, though. During the broadcast, USA Network shared Cunningham’s hilarious mantra. The network revealed that they had to step in to implement censorship.

All in all, though, Cunningham’s broadcasting debut went well. There were no major issues or any on-air blunders, especially after USA Network cut her off multiple times.

Cunningham signed on as a season-long contributor for USA Network, which means that she will be back in the booth soon enough. This is an opportunity for the veteran to start carving out a potential post-basketball career in broadcasting.

Cunningham already runs a very popular podcast entitled “Show Me Something.” She’s also expanded her profile among fans, especially after joining the Fever last season. At this point, sportscasting could be the next logical career move for Cunningham for when she retires from the WNBA.
