Kyle Monangai was one of the last players selected in the 2025 NFL Draft. The Rutgers product was taken at No. 233 after spending four years with the program and earning first-team All-Big 12 honors the previous year. Not many expected him to make the Chicago Bears’ final roster due to his late selection.
However, he is now considered one of the biggest steals in recent draft history. Monangai has outperformed his draft status to become a key contributor for his team. He was named the starter when D’Andre Swift got hurt before Week 9, and Monangai delivered 26 carries for 176 yards.
The 24-year-old has since split carries with the veteran. Monangai is aiming to surpass his performances last year and carve out an even bigger role. He recorded 169 rushing attempts for 783 yards and five touchdowns in 17 games. Monangai added 18 receptions for 164 yards.

The Bears have completed their OTAs and minicamps. However, Monangai is still putting in work despite being on summer break. A clip of him training in the rain is currently making the rounds on social media. In it, Monangai is already looking locked in for his second NFL campaign.
Monangai and Chicago are coming off a strong 2025 season. They won the NFC North and reached the Divisional Round. While they face the toughest schedule in 2026, the running back continues to work in the lab, which is a positive sign. He has emerged as a fan favorite for his playing style and no-nonsense demeanor.
The Bears will reconvene in late July to begin their training camp. Monangai is raring to go and ready to show head coach Ben Johnson and his staff that he has more in his bag.
