Chicago Cubs centerfielder Pete Crow-Armstrong is arguably the most popular player on the team. Thanks to the contract extension he signed earlier this year, he likely will remain so for a long time. And while he has spent his entire Major League career with the Cubs, he was not originally drafted by the organization.
Back in 2020, the New York Mets selected Crow-Armstrong with the 19th overall pick in the MLB amateur draft. A year later, though, they sent him to Chicago in exchange for Javier Baez and Trevor Richards.
Needless to say, the Cubs have gotten the better end of that deal.

The Cubs are in the midst of a four-game series against the Mets, the team that originally drafted Crow-Armstrong. Chicago has won the first three games, and the former New York prospect had Mets legend Keith Hernandez admitting on air that them sending Crow-Armstrong to the Cubs is one of the worst trade in recent memory:

“Oh my goodness. One of the worst trades in a long while by the Mets,” Hernandez said after watching Crow-Armstrong run the bases.
Since making his Major League debut with the Cubs, Crow-Armstrong has put together a 30-30 season, won a Gold Glove, and made an All-Star team.
So far this season, he is hitting .285/.366/.520 with 17 home runs, 44 RBI, and 18 stolen bases.
Needless to say, the woeful Mets sure could use a player like him right now. Fortunately for Chicago, they gave him up for next to nothing (as it turned out).
