White Sox receive frustrating MLB trade deadline update as July begins

The Chicago White Sox have been one of the most intriguing team in all of baseball this season. Just about everyone felt they would once again be in the basement of the AL Central heading into 2026, but instead, they are in first place past the halfway point.

So, it begs the question: what exactly will the White Sox do at the MLB trade deadline?

Will Chicago buy to continue its playoff push and to perhaps make an attempt at a deep October run? Will it sell off some pieces to focus on the future? Or will it mostly stand pat?

General manager Chris Getz has not really played his hand just yet, which makes perfect sense. You don’t want other teams to know your strategy, and to be quite frank, Getz himself probably doesn’t know for sure what to do just yet.

The next four weeks will surely determine the White Sox’s path, and Bleacher Report’s Joel Reuter has provided an update for the team as far as their trade deadline plans are concerned.

July has officially begun, and with the trade deadline on Aug. 3, things are beginning to take shape.

However, Chicago is still in limbo as far as what its decision will be at the deadline, and Reuter seems to think the White Sox are either one big winning streak or one big losing streak away from coming to a consensus.

“The White Sox have arrived sooner than expected, so the question now is whether they start pushing chips in for short-term upgrades or continue to focus on building something sustainable for the long term,” Reuter wrote.

Of course, with Chicago being at the top of the AL Central and the second-place Cleveland Guardians showing very little sign of making a major run, it would be hard to market a sell-off to your fanbase in the coming weeks.

White Sox fans have been starving for success, and now, they’re finally getting a taste of it. It wouldn’t be a good look for Chicago move some key veterans in order to continue positioning itself for the long haul. But at the same time, can the South Siders risk mortgaging their future just for a pie-in-the-sky shot at a World Series this year?

We’ll see what the White Sox decide to do in the coming weeks.
