Sophie Cunningham has become a fan favorite in Indiana, and her popularity has skyrocketed with the Fever. She has established herself as an enforcer on the court and is not afraid to go face-to-face with the WNBA’s biggest stars.
The 6-foot-1 guard continues to shine off the bench for a team struggling with production from its reserves. She averages 9.4 points, 2.4 rebounds and 1.3 assists in 22.9 minutes.
Cunningham began the season with the starting unit, but the team moved her to the bench in favor of Lexie Hull. She is one of the most reliable contributors among non-starters, further increasing her stock.
With the trade deadline nearing, the Missouri product has emerged as a potential trade asset for Indiana.

Cunningham’s value transcends the stat sheets. Her grit, tenacity and leadership could boost several teams around the league that are looking for her qualities. The 29-year-old’s contract situation and season production make her an intriguing trade asset, according to Brian Haenchen of the Indianapolis Star.
“She’s on an expiring contract and in the midst of a phenomenal season, averaging 9.4 points on 47.5% shooting (44% 3FG) off the bench,” Indy Star’s Haenchen wrote. “Though the 6-1 wing would likely net a decent return, she is the Fever’s most-reliable scorer beyond the top three.”
Indiana has a tough decision to make, especially if another team extends a good offer. However, with the Fever doing well and starting to live up to expectations, the front office needs to decide if trading her is the right move. They may also delay their decision until the last minute to see what the other contenders have done before the deadline.
Moving Cunningham will likely sting, but fans need to brace themselves for whatever may happen before 3 p.m. ET on Sunday.
