“Only you can save the world…” DCM in Germany has revealed an official trailer for the movie Sacrifice, an especially provocative eco-warrior thriller from French filmmaker Romain Gavras as his first English-language creation. This originally premiered at the 2025 Toronto Film Festival one year ago to completely divisive reviews – some hate it, some think it’s okay, some dig it; all over the map (here’s my thoughts). At an elite fundraising gala, celebrities and socialites find themselves in danger when armed activists storm the venue in pursuit of a legendary relic that could unlock supernatural powers. This film stars Anya Taylor-Joy as an eco-warrior who takes hostage this special rich person event held at a marble mine. “Thought-provoking, visually arresting, and powered by a kinetic original script co-written with Will Arbery (also of Succession), Gavras’ Sacrifice is a satirical action-adventure and visually explosive epic led by a magnetic star-studded ensemble.” The cast features Anya Taylor-Joy as Joan, Chris Evans as Mike Tyler, Salma Hayek, Vincent Cassel, Sam Richardson, Yung Lean, Ambika Mod, Charli XCX, as well as John Malkovich. One helluva cast! This is an extra bonkers, extremely ambitious, totally wild film that even if it doesn’t all work, still deserves our admiration for existing and being this bold and crazy.
