Chicago Bears quarterback Tyson Bagent was very critical of his throw during their preseason opener versus the Cleveland Browns on Saturday.
Bagent was the biggest critic of himself after an interception in the second quarter that was intended for Stephen Carlson. The upcoming fourth-year player out of Shepard acknowledged his mistake during his post-game interview, saying he was too late with his decision, which resulted in the interception.
“That is just me being extremely late,” Bagent said. “Complete slappy move on my part. Gotta be better there. I think one less hitch will get the job done.”
Bagent also discussed his takeaways from that mishap and how he will be better moving forward.
“Or even just move on,” Bagent continued. “Move onto the next progression or throw it in the dirt. But by all means, don’t throw an interception.”
Ultimately, the Bears won the opener, 34-10, against the Browns. Bagent finished with 169 passing yards, one touchdown and one interception.

Said one less hitch, moving to next progression or dirting the ball were better options.

Bagent played as the team’s starting quarterback against the Browns, as head coach Ben Johnson rested their star, Caleb Williams, along with the majority of their starters.
Coach Johnson is prioritizing players’ health and avoiding unnecessary injuries after a grueling training camp session in previous weeks.
Furthermore, it’s a good way for Johnson and his coaching staff to evaluate the team’s depth and identify the players who can fill the final spots on the roster heading into the season.
The Bears will play two more preseason games on Saturday and Aug. 30 against the Cincinnati Bengals and the Tennessee Titans, respectively.
Then, they will kick off their season with an away game against the Carolina Panthers on Sept. 13 inside Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte.
