Chicago Bears tight end Colston Loveland turned plenty of heads during his rookie season. Now entering his sophomore campaign, the NFL world is expecting him to reach even greater heights.
Loveland now has more experience catching passes from quarterback Caleb Williams and operating in head coach Ben Johnson’s system. With his current setup, Dan Wiederer of the Athletic is predicting Loveland will lead all NFL tight ends in receptions yards and touchdowns.
“Yes, the breakout potential for the second-year tight end has that kind of ceiling,” Wiederer wrote. “Loveland has a growing rapport with quarterback Caleb Williams, trust from play-caller Ben Johnson and an expanding role that takes advantage of all his gifts.”
“Even inside of a share-the-wealth Bears offense with impressive weaponry at all the skill positions, Loveland can sniff 90 catches, 1,000 yards and 10 touchdowns this season,” he continued. “His continued emergence will go a long way toward determining just how explosive the Bears offense can be.”
During the 2025 season, Trey McBride of the Arizona Cardinals led the NFL with 126 receptions for 1,239 yards and 11 touchdowns. Those will be some lofty numbers to hit. But in an offense run by Johnson, it wouldn’t be shocking to see Loveland take a massive leap forward.

Over his first 16 games in the NFL, the tight end caught 58 passes for 713 yards and six touchdowns. He led the team in receptions and yardage, tying for first in touchdowns. While the Bears have plenty of talented pass catchers, Loveland still found his way to the top.
Johnson is now sure to utilize more 13 personnel seeing how Chicago stacked their tight end room. The will allow Loveland to be on the field more, with ample opportunity to make an impact.
Perhaps the scariest part about Loveland’s rookie season is that he didn’t catch more than three passes until Week 7. From that moment on, he never had fewer than three. Now fully acclimated into the Bears’ offense, the sky’s the limit for Chicago’s standout tight end.
