Fever makes bold Sophie Cunningham statement with 4 games left in WNBA season

The Indiana Fever have four games left on their regular-season schedule. They are battling with the Las Vegas Aces and Atlanta Dream for the No. 3 seed and have turned their campaign around after a slow start. Their success has been possible with the help of Sophie Cunningham, who they are campaigning for to win a WNBA award.

She is big part of the team’s rotation, providing quality minutes off the bench. Cunningham began the year as a starter, but the coaching staff changed her role to give the reserves more offensive firepower. She has responded by becoming a consistent contributor and showing no signs of fearing going up against opponents’ best players.

Cunningham has fully recovered from the torn MCL she suffered last year. With the start of the playoffs around the corner, she is looking forward to continue playing a key role for the team.

Fever campaigning for Sophie Cunningham to win a WNBA honor

The Fever campaigned for Cunningham to be named the league’s Sixth Player of the Year. They posted her season averages along with a graphic on Instagram on Thursday.

“Sophie Cunningham is averaging 8.3 PPG while shooting a career-high 46.9 FG% and 43.4 3P% (No. 2 in WNBA) with 17 games in double figures this season ,” the team wrote. “Soph for 6th Player of the Year .”

Indiana will play its next game on Sept. 18 against the Toronto Tempo. A two-game homestand follows, with the team hosting the Washington Mystics and Minnesota Lynx at Gainbridge Fieldhouse. The Fever will wrap up their regular season with a matchup with the Lynx at Target Center on Sept. 24.

They have a 26-14 record despite starting the season 5-5. Indiana has the same record as the Atlanta Dream; however, Angel Reese and Co. own the tiebreaker. The Las Vegas Aces lead both team by one game. All eight playoff berths have been clinched but the seedings remain to be finalized.
