Kelsey Mitchell and Indiana Fever played their first game on Friday after the FIBA World Cup break. She didn’t skip a beat and once again performed admirably. The had a request for its fans following a major WNBA development.
Mitchell finished with a game-high 33 points built on seven three-pointers and 12-of-17 shooting. She added two rebounds, two assists and was a +18 in the 103-85 win over the Toronto Tempo. The 30-year-old surpassed A’ja Wilson’s previous mark of 1,021 points and set a mark for the most points in a single season with 1,034.
Caitlin Clark backed Mitchell with 28 points, six rebounds and 14 assists. She shot 7-of-15 from the field and 12-of-12 from the free-throw line. Myisha Hines-Allen and Aliyah Boston combined for 17 points, 12 rebounds and four assists.

Indiana uploaded a photo of Mitchell in the locker room. Her teammates celebrated her feat by showering her with confetti from a party popper. The team added its request in the caption.

It wasn’t the first record Mitchell broke this season. She also owns the most consecutive regular-season games and most in a single season with 20-plus points. While others struggle to play at their best after a long break, the 5-foot-8 showed no signs of rust.
Mitchell has a chance to add to her total points this season as the Fever have three games remaining on their schedule. They will return to action on Sunday to host the Washington Mystics at Gainbridge Fieldhouse. Another home fame follows on two days later against the Minnesota Lynx. Their last fixture is also versus the Lynx at Target Center on Thursday. Indiana remains fifth in the standings with a 27-14 record.
