Tristan Peters avoids major injury but White Sox blow 6 run lead in gut-punch loss

What initially looked like a promising night unraveled quickly. Tristan Peters had a scary collision with a post in the outfield and the Chicago White Sox suffered a gut-punching loss, blowing a six run lead. This costly defeat may leave the White Sox without Peters for a few days, but they also lost sole possession of the American League Central division for the first time since July 3.

In the fifth inning, with the White Sox holding an 8-2 lead, Peters tried to make a remarkable play at the wall, but ended up striking a post hard with his shoulder. The result of the play was a bases clearing triple for Kevin McGonigle, but thankfully Peters was able to walk off under his own power, x-rays were later negative for fracture, and he was diagnosed with shoulder and rib contusions. He is considered day-to-day.

Chicago White Sox blow six run lead and lose sole possession of American League Central division

The White Sox appeared to be in complete control Friday night, jumping out to an 8-2 lead by the third inning. However, the game quickly slipped away as Detroit scored nine unanswered runs to rally for an 11-8 victory. Rookie David Sandlin surrendered five earned runs, while Chris Murphy allowed one, Jordan Hicks gave up two, and Bryan Hudson was charged with three.

Meanwhile, the Cleveland Guardians held on for a 5-3 win over the Athletics, moving a full game ahead of Chicago in the standings. The White Sox do hold the season tiebreaker, however, meaning that if the two teams finish with identical records after next weekend, Chicago would claim the division title.
