The Chicago Bears were in striking distance throughout their Week 2 matchup against the Minnesota Vikings. But none of their knockout punches landed, ultimately leading to a 9-3 loss.
One of the biggest factors holding the Bears back were their penalties. They got called for eight overall, losing 58 yards. Numerous drives were stalled out due to offensive penalties.
Beyond Chicago’s self sabotage, the offense couldn’t get their usual dangerous run game going. The Bears gained 134 yards on 31 carries with 42 of them coming from quarterback Caleb Williams. D’Andre Swift average just 2.8 yards per carry.
The loss was a collective dud for the Bears at-large. But one player is shouldering more of the blame than others.

Of the Bears’ eight penalties, at least four were attributed to center Garrett Bradbury. He had a pair of holding and false start calls. While it may be his first year in Chicago, Bradbury is a veteran. He knows that type of play is inexcusable, via Brad Biggs of the Chicago Tribune.
“It’s on me,” he said. “It’s just inexcusable. It kills drives. Got to clean it up.”
“It’s on me,” Bradbury continued. “I’m not going to put it on anything the (Vikings) defense was doing or anything we were doing. Just not good enough. It’s super frustrating.”
Bradbury spent the first six years of his career with the Vikings, playing for them as recently as 2024. He knew Minnesota would bring the pressure. And yet, the center and offense line as a whole still struggled against that test.
“It’s pretty self-explanatory,” Bradbury said. “It’s super frustrating. I felt like we had a good idea of where they were moving to. We’ll get into the film and see why runs that went 2 or 3 didn’t go for 8 or 9. That’s this game. It’s a long season and we just got to keep getting better.”
The Bears do have second-round center Logan Jones waiting in the wings. If Bradbury continues to struggle, perhaps his name is called. But at the very least, Bradbury is ready to put in the work and come out stronger in Week 3.
