When quarterback Caleb Williams went down, it seems as if the Chicago Bears’ hopes had vanished in thin air. However, further tests revealed that the quarterback isn’t facing a long-term absence. Chicago took a collective sigh of relief.
Still, Williams is dealing with a hamstring strain and has been labeled week-to-week. While he hasn’t yet been ruled out in Week 3, the quarterback isn’t expected to practice. All signs point to backup Tyson Bagent starting against the Philadelphia Eagles on Monday Night Football.
If so, the Bears are sure to look much different. Bagent has received plenty of hype leading into the matchup, he doesn’t have the same level of playmaking ability as Williams. To his credit, not many quarterbacks do.
Still, Chicago will be looking to pick up a win in Week 3. And the NFL world isn’t giving up on them despite Williams’ potential absence.

The Eagles are entering Week 3 still a perfect 2-0. However, they squeaked by the Tennessee Titans by just four points. Furthermore, the Bears beat them in last season’s matchup. Ben Solak of ESPN clearly sees a way in which Chicago takes a Week 3 victory.
“Bagent is a pretty good backup,” Solak wrote. “The Bears’ run game is vicious and took Vic Fangio’s defense for a ride last season. The Eagles’ run game is nonexistent right now given their offensive line injuries, and starting tight end Dallas Goedert is on injured reserve. This just feels like a spot for the Bears to rally.”
While all eyes will be on Bagent and the offense, Chicago’s defense must step up as well. They held the Minnesota Vikings to just nine points in Week 2. But this is the same defense that gave up 37 to the Carolina Panthers in Week 1. The jury is still out on where the Bears stand.
With Williams out, Chicago will be heavily discounted against the Eagles. But the Bears want to prove they can’t be taken lightly.
