The Chicago Bears entered the week uncertain on the status of Caleb Williams and Tyson Bagent before their Week 3 “Monday Night Football” contest at home against the Philadelphia Eagles.
Williams suffered a hamstring strain in the Bears’ 9-3 loss to the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday. Bagent is in the concussion protocol. Williams is unlikely to play, but Chicago head coach Ben Johnson did not rule out Bagent or Williams for Monday night.
If neither is able to go, the Bears will turn to Case Keenum as their starter. Undrafted rookie Miller Moss could be Keenum’s backup.
Per the Bears, an estimation revealed on Thursday’s injury report was not good for Williams or Bagent. Both were listed as non-participants, though Chicago did not have practice on Thursday.
Kicker Cairo Santos (right hip), running back Kyle Monangai (knee), cornerback Tyrique Stevenson (hamstring) were estimated as non participants. Linebacker Noah Sewell (Achilles), and defensive lineman Shemar Turner (knee) were estimated as limited participants.

Johnson didn’t anticipate Williams practicing this week. Bagent will have to clear the concussion protocol to practice. It’s not a good sign that Bagent is still in the concussion protocol.
In the meantime, Williams is helping to prepare the Bears for the Eagles, and Johnson will have to do his best to keep the quarterback off the field if that’s what’s best for the 2024 No. 1 pick.
“He’s still being a great supporter in the quarterback room, in walkthrough right now. Making sure he’s contributing ideas for what we want to get done,” Johnson said. “It’s one of those things, you know, he’s an antsy individual; he’s a competitor, wants to be on the grass going full speed…
“It’s a little more challenging to hold a guy back like that, but if you can build a player, that’s what you want him to be like.”
For now, it’s looking like Williams will help Keenum prepare to start.
